“In my sculpture, I combine common materials in a direct manner to create visual statements with physical presence. The idea for a piece usually comes from something I see in everyday life – a bed, a pool, a stairwell, an umbrella. I try to take a simple idea and construct an object or installation using straightforward materials, so that the end result is satisfying and elevating beyond the commonplace. Repetition, staggered order, and light and shadow create a sense of movement; and even though the combinations of materials I use often create psychological tension, I use scale and balance to produce a sense of calm and visual relaxation.” - Tom Orr, Artist
